Save yourself communicating

“After the first glass you see things as how you would like them to be. After the second one, you see things as not they are. In the end… you see things how they really are and that’s the worst thing of all.”(Oscar Wilde)
My name is Catalina… and I’m addicted to freedom. I breathe, walk, dream, sing, whisper, love. Why? Because I can, because I am free. Why? Like a very well-known slogan would say: ”Because I deserve it.” And no, it’s not a cliché. I really do. I deserve the freedom that I have consciously chosen, with all the risks that I’m taking.
It is said that it’s better to live with thrift. But is it really like that? Who says that? Whose is this universally recognized voice that all cherish, approve and forward? The one who says this is also the one who believes in this? And, above all, where is the limit? Your limit is my limit too?
3        It is said all over that you must live with thrift. Alcohol, smoking, drugs are topics about it is written constantly, which some discuss regularly. Vices and the danger they pose to adolescents ... how dangerous can be the entourage ... there is nothing new for us all. We all know the same tired voice that says "no drinking, no smoking”; most know how bad it can be a lifestyle matched with smoking and alcohol, how vicious is the circle of drugs, where a bad entourage can lead and still it is questionable... how many of us realize these things really? We all know these things, we all heard at least once. Some have created a defense mechanism of armored remissness, some were simply immune, while others were simply victims.
It's wonderful to live in your crystal ball, to look around believing that these are only stories and that nothing really happens or it can happen to anyone ... but not to you. I thought the same and maybe I would still do it if I wouldn’t have woken up to reality, when the weight of this reality started to pressure me. But you open your eyes when you see that a friend’s hands are trembling in the morning. And the day begins with 100vodka, then you’re surprised when at the parties you don’t drink only juice, but also whisky, and you start to fear when the phone rings and you know that alcohol guided your best friend to the hospital. Then you open wide your eyes, look to the right, to the left and then inside you. And you think that “the other” it can be you. You in a moment of non-thinking, when you didn’t know where to stop. For a second you thought that you are tougher, that you can be more special. You like it the first time…you think that you have the right of a second chance, a third one…until there’s no more you, there are no more rights to choose…you’re sold to addiction.
You live with thrift? Who can say that? Who is the one who knows your limits? The one who doesn’t drink, doesn’t smoke?
Who can say to you if you’re wrong and where you should stop? Maybe the priest, the doctor, the therapist, your parents, friends? Or maybe no one. No one knows your limit, no one can choose for you. For this, you must live with thrift and taste every pleasure perfectly conscious of what you do. To live a balanced life means to know when to stop, and above all to have the power to do it. There are so many ways that can lead you to a non-balanced life style and so few ways to keep the right line in your life. It is enough to meet an entourage that has its own will and decides for you in every situation.
Around us are many teenagers addicted to alcohol because of their age… because of their will to be more special, to look “cool”. Then, you don’t like yourself anymore when you’re awake, that there’s “you” only in alcohol.
All of us try to find a solution… that seems impossible to find. But we don’t realize that the answer is inside us, and in those around us. Words can make miracles and can change lifes. It’s perfect to be your own master, to know what to choose from all these things that life offers. This is the way to happiness and success, to be capable to transform the little pleasures in accessories that make your life nicer, without being their prisoner, and the main weapon that you have to use against this “invisible enemy” that looks like “something” that will never attack you is communication.
And I say it loud : you can choose to be free, choosing communication not drinking!
