LACK OF COMMUNICATION
I don’t think that this theme can be represented using a scientific essay, thus I will present some situations, it doesn’t matter if they are real or not because it doesn’t mean that they can’t occur in the real world.
First situation
Silviu is a student in the 11th form at a theoretic high
school. He learns pretty well, is the pride of his parents, wants
to become a doctor, that’s why he chose the Natural Sciences section. He belongs
to a good family, his mom is a architect, his father
is the chairman at a company and Silviu is the only
child. But his parents are always on the road and he hardly speaks with them on
the phone or sees them in the weekend. The parents being busy with their
careers spend to little time with their kid and though
he is already 17, he is always treated like a little child by his parents. He
stays with his grandparents who give him much more liberty than he ought to
have and he doesn’t know what to do with it. He doesn’t have too many friends
because all of his ages consider him a boring person, always too calm. This
determines Silviu to take too serious the few
conversations and the moments which he has with those that talk to him. He’s
most of the time made a fool and many bully him in
front of others and all he does is just to smile because he’s too scared to
fight back.
On one unfortunate day when Silviu is made fun at
again, Marian, a classmate, notices what happens and Silviu’s careless reaction. During break, Silviu is invited by Marian and two of his best friends at
a “juice”. Silviu is a little stunned because it’s
the first time when Marian talks to him but because he wants to have friends
accepts the invitation. Another classmate, hearing what the four were talking,
said that “I want to come, too!”. Marian shouts at
him: ”You weren’t invited!”, trying to put Silviu in
a better light so that no one would treat him as they used to by bullying him
and making bad jokes. Silviu, very delighted, leaves
with his new friends to a terrace of a restaurant which is at a considerable
distance from school.
“Guys, we won’t be on time for class” says Silviu.
“Have no worry, the religion teacher supposes that the
absents are of another religion. After, at PI I’ll excuse you”.
Considering what Marian just said, he sits down on the table among the others.
When the waiter comes to take the order, the three order each a pint of beer. Silviu gets really drunk because it is the first time when
he drinks alcohol. He wakes up hangover at home on the staircases in front of
the door. He can’t remember what happened, he has a terrible headache. He
tip-toes into the house, goes past his grandmother which watches TV and when
she asks “Where have you been?”, he responds briefly
“I had a walk with my friends”. When he gets into his room, he throws himself
onto the bed and falls asleep.
The next day he talks with his new friends about what happened the day before.
They schedule that the next day, all for of them to go for a drink. Next day,
he invites his friends to the planned drink. The boys pretend to be sad and say
that they can’t come because they can’t pay the bill. Silviu,
which receives lots of money from his parents, says the he’ll make a treat.
Such thing happened also in the following days. So the boy becomes an
alcoholic. He misses from school by the days. After more than a month, the form
master being stunned by the student’s absences and changed behavior, he
contacts his parents. The parents, being surprised of what they’ve just heard,
try to contact the boy. He is nowhere to be found. The grandmother says that he
left for a walk with his classmate. At 11 PM, his mother contacts the police.
After hours of searching, Silviu is found. The boy’s
“corpse” was at almost 100 yards far from his favorite pub, being left there by
his friends who were scared and didn’t know what to do.
Second situation
Alina is a student at a technical college. She is ambitious, does not accept
low grades, and dreams to become an architect. Her parents do everything for
her, although they are not doing so well financially, they delight her as much
as they can. Alina is appreciated by everyone, teachers, parents, colleagues.
She enjoys every appreciation, each compliment. But Alina is not very popular
among her colleagues and she feels always alone. She wants to have a friend.
She falls in love of Cristi , a bachelor, and the beautiful girls from her class always
talk about him. Her ambition doesn’t let her down and with little effort she
starts a friendship with Cristi.
He, which is the most popular boy in the high school,
speaks well about Alina in front of their colleagues. Alina always tried to
make everything for Cristi, because she was afraid to
lose his friendship. So, Alina goes with Cristi in
different clubs and discos in the city. He takes advantage of his new friend’s naivity, influences Alina and
changes her behavior, so that she matches with his life style. Alina drinks as
much as Cristi, she has learned to smoke, to curse,
to take advantage of the liberty given by her parents.
Until one unhappy night, when after they went in a club where she drank with
her boyfriend, she wakes up in bed near Cristi. Tries
to stay calm, and sees that her boyfriend is still sleeping, she dresses up and
slips out of his apartment and goes home. After a confrontation with her
parents, she lies and doesn’t tell them the truth. The two don’t see each other
a while. Alina starts to have nauseas. A little paranoid, she buys from a
drugstore a pregnancy test. She makes it without everyone to know, and the
result is positive. Frightened, she starts to cry, but she doesn’t know what to
tell her parents. She tries to speak with Cristi. The
boy, when he receives the news, he gets scared, refuses Alina
and curses her. Frightened of the boy’s reaction, she runs away. Crying, she
gets home, and her parents ask her why is she crying.
She lies, and tells her parents that she got a bad grade and that she is going
to go for a walk. After a few minutes in fresh air she decides to tell her
parents about the pregnancy test. But first, she wants to have courage, and she
makes what Cristi taught her. She goes to a bar and
orders a whisky. The waiter, a little surprised, brings what she ordered. Alina
drinks it very fast and she orders another one. Although she drank some glasses
of whisky, Alina’s courage doesn’t come. A colleague
passes by the terrace and sees her, tries to speak with her, but Alina is angry
and doesn’t want to talk with anyone. Worried, her colleague calls Alina’s parents. They are shocked by their daughter’s
behavior and take the needed measures.
The conclusion
As you can see, in both situation, the teenagers got to consume a big quantity
of alcohol, because of lack of communication. Silviu
was spending too little time with his parents and the lack of communication
determined him to enter in that entourage. Alina got also to alcohol because of
the fear to communicate.
If you find yourself in one of these situations, don’t hesitate to communicate.
If your parents aren’t able to listen to you, there are always friends,
teachers or form masters whom you can address. Don’t be afraid to go to the
psychologist. There is a difference between a psychologist and a psychiatrist.
If you go to the psychologist doesn’t mean you are insane, it means that you
need someone to can talk to.
Not taken into consideration of his friends and unhappy by himself, the
young man will hesitate to speak about his problem and frequently persists to
refuse to admit his problem. Speak with your friends, admit that alcohol is
your enemy, have confidence in you and ask for help, because it is a nature’s
law to help each other!
